Insidium is item-forward. Operators are defined both by stats and by what they carry: that exploit development suite, that gun, that old laptop, that screwdriver you hope never to use. Items are how problems get solved and how operators survive contact with CORP.
Most items are also mortal. CORP can brick them remotely, raids can expend them, use can break them, and whatever you sold off yesterday is probably what you'll need tonight.
Higher marketplaces have better items for sale. These higher marketplaces are only accessible to operators with high reputation. Coincidentally, operators with high reputation are also more wanted by CORP.
